Portrait of an artist as a young man. Roughly chronological, using archival footage intercut with recent interviews, a story takes shape of Bob Dylan's (b. 1941) coming of age from 1961 to 1966 as a singer, songwriter, performer, and star. He takes from others: singing styles, chord changes, and rare records. He keeps moving: on stage, around New York City and on tour, from Suze Rotolo to Joan Baez and on, from songs of topical witness to songs of raucous independence, from folk to rock. He drops the past. He refuses, usually with humor and charm, to be simplified, classified, categorized, or finalized: always becoming, we see a shapeshifter on a journey with no direction home.

Phil Ochs There But for Fortune: From civil rights to the anti-war movement to the struggles of workers, folksinger Phil Ochs wrote topical songs that engaged his audiences in the issues of the 1960s and 70s. In this biographical documentary, veteran director Kenneth Bowser shows how Phil's music and his fascinating life story and eventual decline into depression and suicide were intertwined with the history-making events that defined a generation. Even as his contemporaries moved into folk-rock and pop music, Phil followed his own vision, challenging himself and his listeners. Not one to pull punches, Ochs never achieved the commercial success he desperately desired. But his music remains relevant, reaching new audiences in a generation that finds his themes all too familiar.

Chances of success were slim at first for these homeless handicapped artists who struggled to survive on the streets of their dilapidated capital. "Benda Bilili" is not a music film, it's the story of a dream that became reality. And a plunge into the streets of Kinshasa without a safety net.

Deep Purple came from an idea exotic. In the country that spawned The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and has revealed the title of the god Eric Clapton, everyone was waiting for the next big idea in the fertile field of rock. In 1967, Chris Curtis, a former drummer for The Searchers, had the idea to collect exotic very talented musicians in a group called Roundabout (Roundabout). They would take turns around the drummer, like a carousel. Once the idea was bought by producer Tony Edwards, the first musician to come across the idea was keyboardist Jon Lord, a colleague of Curtis with The Flowerpot Men, where he also played the bassist Nick Simper.

Syd Barrett - Under Review: The fact that Syd Barrett – Under Review was released a few short months before its subject's death (in July, 2006) is the kind of poignant coincidence that may help sell a few more copies--especially in England, where the songwriter-guitarist and Pink Floyd founder's legend burns on. Others, however, may wonder how a guy who effectively disappeared from the music scene after completing just three albums (one with the band and two solo) some 35 years before his demise could inspire the kind of praise and serious analysis radiating from this unauthorized documentary
